Lavess Soso Gallas C-16 FOIL

Concept, sans cammo. I actualy prefer this one as the cammo is all too effective at doing it's job, breaking up the fluid lines of the machine. The subtle sweeps and curves are the primary design cues to Futurism. No this isn't intended to be pure Futurism, its more derived from ideas of a fractured past in the story setting. Whats this then? Cool mecha.
Yeah, not pure futurist, but very inspired.

neat . . .

kinda' iczer-ish, or gatchaman-esque . . .

dk told me about you 'workin' this concept, i guess when it was still IN progress . . .

we agreed it was a cool idea & one you could really build on . . .

without our help, of course, but:

for instance making the whole mek fill a 'picture frame,' incorporating the 'background' as futurist/cubist works did so commonly to dissolve the illusory boundaries between figure & ground . . .

so he/she/it'd be kinda' like "nude descending a staircase" AS an alexander calder mobile AS a marionette . . .

a big flat rectilinear mek . . . a painting as a floating set of irregular wafers?

the 'background' being really just more 'feathers' or arms or what not . . .

it'd might have to have some translucent parts to meld together (your posted mek APPEARS to have some such parts/extensions/prongs which made me think that) . . .

we talked about most of this in sheerly formal/technical terms, as the mek AS an art piece for its own sake (which i know IS important to you, what with the weirdness factor of your universe/concept) . . .

but!

due to the close quarters/narrow passages of a great deal of the almost foamy/cellular structure of indus it could work well on the level of imagined military apps too: being able to close off corridors, dooorways & such . . .

& become quasi-invisible in the process . . . maybe even lending to specialized locomotion through the crack & crevices that abound . . .

well, blah, thought i could make this quick & relatively un-annoying, but?

so again: neat . . .

bye . . .

Yow there’s a buttload of posts. I haven’t had time to really post on the blog or in the comments, a lot of freelance keeping me busy O_O;;;

Safetinspector: Thanks man. Indeed, it’s not what one would call pure Futurism but then what is pure anything anymore. Certainly it is inspired by Futurist art.

Zszsz: Woah, them be a pile o posts. Some interesting ideas but the point of this was quite simple, it’s just a refined concept illo for a mech with shape and form defined by the notion of Futurism. Something like a painting or illo with the “Bride” feel is not out of the realm of what I might do but for the purpose of what this is, it’s just a straightforward concept illo and I’m sure that was apparent overall. DK told you? Would this be Steve by chance?

This is too big for Indus, it’s a large sendai derived combat frame with the pilot typically seated behind the headcase, the sendai “element” resides in the head, It’s on Polemos only. I thought of Guyver when I completed it as well but it wasn’t really inspired by it, it just sort of arrived there. It certainly has a very old school feel to it. Thanks for the links, Indeed I’ve been there before (along with various other sites on Futurism, Deco, Cubism, etc), Google is a fine thing it is.

And, yes a Happy New Year to everyone.

yeah, the comments were less inspired by the actual copy of your design, than by the conversation dk & i had many moons ago when he was talking about you working with this/similar concept(s) . . .

then actually seeing this design reminded me of said 'convo' & inspired the blah . . . blah . . . blah . . .

:]

steve . . .

p.s. the recent deviant posts kick ass . . .

p.p.s. so what IS wolfgang studying now?

p.p.p.s. . . .

uh, duh, oh, yeah . . .

i don't know WHERE i thought i saw saedus on there, but "FOIL" is clearly clear . . .

(i'm not sporadically yelling, i just don't know how to do the html italicizing)

Don’t sweat the capitalization action, I do it a lot on the net as well, it usually comes off as more an exclamation than yelling if it’s in the right context.

I imagine you have an idea of what Jeff is up to with the whole TTA post, some wild irony there. When I saw the job posting I knew it had him written all over it and he’s going gangbusters with the project :) He’s also been studying teaching and brail for his actual schooling beyond writing gigs and translating.

Yeah I suppose all this Theos business must be either confusing or intriguing seeing as how it sprouted from the base Basilea/Peanut butter material. It’s pretty complex and fleshed out and all interconnected with everything else, all fitting together like Legos. It’s also been quite an involving new playground for ideas and although there was always the notion of “large” mecha on the Polemos (planet name changed purely to maintain the secret of the setting) the whole FOIL combat and culture just kinda grew out of a desire to do something different with the whole large combat mecha thing. It’s evolved into something that richly compliments the whole sendai ideas and, although only a trickle of FOIL designs have been posted many more are on the way. More of everything really, that whole world building thing form the ground up :)
